somewhere a faraway light glimmers
triggers a rivulet that becomes an avalanche
long-forgotten pathways overgrown
in desolate sojourns across mundane emptinesses
on which a career is built, like a highway heading nowhere
paving over a youthful poet’s idyllic writing deeply buried
till this unexpected reawakening
sleepy synapses refire
electricity igniting valves and transistors of a bygone era
reconnecting impossibly life’s widening outward spirals
that compel us down blind one-way alleys
like ships passing each other in darkness never touching
somewhere that light rekindles a joy once held dear
like a caged bird relearning to fly
phantom pains of a limb lost in time
an amnesiac’s reflex so natural
that familiar ache in a heart with pieces missing
finding solace as ink meets paper
forming self-harming scars the words fall
into pleasure-pain patterns of catharsis
introspection’s release, a mental orgasm
